Overview
Spencer (he/him/his) is a PhD Candidate from Charlottesville, VA and holds an AB in German Literature from Princeton University.
His dissertation project—under the provisional heading “Jazz Poetry in German Keys: Race, Gender, Sound and Transnational Exchange Since 1945”—involves 20th and 21st century German-language poetry, prose and performance and is informed by Literary and Cultural Studies, (Jazz and Popular) Music and Sound studies, Black Studies and Black European Studies.
He has enjoyed teaching beginning and intermediate German language and content courses for 3 years at Cornell, and values pedagogy as an important analogue to scholarship.
He also makes music as a trumpeter, keyboardist, and composer/improviser/producer.
