Overview
Johanna is a non-degree PhD student in the Department of German Studies. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary German literature, with particular interests in gender, aesthetics, and literary theory. She received a B.Sc. in Psychology from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and an M.A. in European Literatures from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Before coming to Cornell, she worked as a research assistant in several literary studies departments at Humboldt, supporting teaching, editorial work, and academic events.
Johanna has published a peer‑reviewed book chapter on gendered codes and subversive humor in Marieluise Fleißer’s Die Vision des Schneiderleins in Erzählte Mode (transcript, 2025). She has also authored multiple conference reports for the Zeitschrift für Germanistik and presented her research at student and international conferences in Prague and Berlin.
In addition to her academic work, she has held roles in political communication and social media, including positions at the German Bundestag and pro familia, where she focused on gender policy, reproductive rights, and public outreach.
